Research summary

My current research focuses on within- and between-countries inequalities in health and determinants of health in range of European countries. My research work includes: (i) research on the measurement of socioeconomic position across the life-course and its relation to health and developmental outcomes; (ii) investigation of the role of health behaviours in explaining social variations in health, and (iii) evaluating the role of social, behavioural and biological risk factors in Eastern vs. Western European differences in health. In particular, I work on The Health, Alcohol and Psychosocial factors In Eastern Europe (HAPIEE) Study, the Wellcome Trust and NIA funded project concentrating on determinants of poor health status in samples of general population in Russia, Poland, Lithuania and the Czech Republic. My work includes research on the measurement of socioeconomic position in relation to various health outcomes over the lifecourse, analysing and explaining the role of psychosocial factors in health, and explaining social variations in health in several countries undergoing social and economic transformation. I am also coordinating UCL part of the EU-FP7 funded DRIVERS project with focus on early social determinants of later health and development of children and young adolescents, and EU-HORIZON2020 funded EURO-HEALTHY ("Shaping EUROpean policies to promote HEALTH equity") project.
