Research summary

My current research interests focus on the determinants of health in an ageing cohort in Central and Eastern Europe (the HAPIEE study). In collaboration with colleagues in Czech Republic, Lithuania, Poland and Russia, a total of approx. 35,000 people have been followed for between 6 and 11 years. Data collected includes a baseline medical examination, demographic, behavioural, health and economic questions, and mortality and CVD morbidity follow-up.

Teaching summary

I am Director of Education / Graduate Tutor for Taught programs for the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care (IEHC), and lead on enhancing teaching and learning through peer dialogue in the Institute. As Director of the MSc Health and Society: Social Epidemiology I am admission tutor, and am involved teaching, academic/personal tutoring and assessment, including module lead for Epidemiology module, Research Methods for Social Epidemiology module and Health Inequalities over the Life Course Epidemiology module, and tutor/assessor for Social Determinants of Global Health module. I also develop teaching and assessment materials for MBBS students and am academic/personal tutor for BSc students.
