New ESRC and BBSRC Funded CDT: 'Soc-B' Centre for Doctoral Training in Biosocial Research

12 January 2017

A joint venture between the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Soc-B Centre for Doctoral Training in Biosocial Research is a new Centre led by UCL.

The aim of the centre is to train future research leaders in the new and rapidly expanding field of biosocial research which is concerned with the dynamic interplays between biology, experiences and behaviours over the course of a person's lifetime.

Encompassing multidisciplinary science, biosocial research brings together expertise from the biological, medical and social sciences.

The biosocial perspective enhances the depth and breadth of insights drawn from research, thereby improving the positive impacts of research on policy and society.

The centre, which will be led by UCL, will also be supported by Manchester and Essex universities - all three institutions are leaders in this field.

Professor Yvonne Kelly (UCL Epidemiology and Public Health) is the Principle Investigator and Director of the programme, which involves research contributions from five faculties - Population Health Sciences, Life Sciences, Brain Sciences, Social and Historical Sciences and the Institute of Education.

The centre will award a minimum of 30 4-year PhD studentships from October 2017
