This three-day boot camp will introduce you to the fundamentals of the modern business world. It'll challenge you to critically assess business today and understand what risks and opportunities businesses face.
Working in interdisciplinary teams, you’ll be tasked with designing a fictional new product or service for a real-world brand, be it a large multinational corporation or fast-growing UK startup. You'll conduct market research and present this potential new market opportunity at the end of the course.
You'll receive a certificate from UCL if you complete all three days of the boot camp.
What to expect
You'll learn about:
- How business works
- The problems business looks to address
- The modern business environment
- How businesses identify and act on opportunities
- The most common tools of analysis
In groups, you’ll be taken through a chronological and experiential journey, developing a new fictional product or service.
You’ll look at some of the problems and issues businesses need to address - such as Brexit - before learning how to spot opportunities.
You’ll then apply industry standard tools and techniques for market research and marketing.
The three days culminate in creating and presenting a pitch deck for your group’s new product.
“It was easily one of the best university experiences I have had over the past year: seamless, informing and great teaching.” Sabina Dewfield, MA Philosophy

- The role, purpose (and future) of business
- Knowledge is power: the importance of market research
- Breaking the mould: where does innovation come from
- Financial fundamentals: can your business make money?
- Creating and testing an idea
