Research

Find out more about the research being undertaken at UCL English, including recent publications and the three principal themes which form the core of our research activity.

UCL English research appears in many forms, from newspaper reviews to scholarly monographs.

There is expertise in just about every facet of this famously diverse and open-boundaried discipline, but our research is also focussed on three principal themes which form the strategic core of our collective thinking and the workshop events and talks that take place within the Department.

Recent Publications

Much of the research published by members of the department is open-access, and can be downloaded for free from UCL Discovery. You can follow links to selected, open-access publications on the webpages for each of our three research themes.

In addition, the English Department is home to the Survey of English Usage.

The Department is also involved in the UCL Centre for Early Modern Exchanges, which explores all kinds of intercultural exchange in the period 1450-1800 and the UCL Urban Laboratory.
