Prosthodontics prize for UCL Eastman trainee

UCL alumna, has scooped the prestigious Shottlander Oral Prize at the British Society of Prosthodontics’ annual conference 2023. The award was presented for Dr Busuttil’s study on CAD/CAM lithium disilicate materials.
The British Society of Prosthodontics (BSSPD), in association with Schottlander, offer an annual prize of £1,000, together with a certificate, to the principal author of an oral presentation given at the annual conference of the society. The scientific programme is a major part of the BSSPD conference, during which papers, posters and table demonstrations are presented. The conference attracts around 300 delegates from the UK and internationally every year.
Dr Rosanna Busuttil (recent graduate of the Conservative Dentistry MSc programme) won the prize with her dissertation: ‘A comparison of the marginal and internal fit of two novel CAD/CAM lithium disilicate materials; Initial LiSi Block, (GC, Japan) and Amber Mill, (HassBio, Korea) compared with an original CAD/CAM lithium disilicate material; IPS e.max CAD (Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein)’.
Current UCL Eastman student, Dr Yun Shan Koh (Prosthodontics MClinDent programme) was also shortlisted for the Shottlander award for her work on comparing the dimensional accuracy of smile mock-ups produced through either digital or analogue pathways.
Speaking of the event, Professor Lambis Petridis, Honorary Consultant and Chair of Prosthodontics at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute, said: “We are delighted with the award and the overall Unit presence at the meeting which reflects the collective excellent teamwork by both staff and trainees. We managed to showcase our current research work through a number of posters and oral presentations; well done to everyone involved!”
