Highlights and winners: Research Away Day 2017
24 November 2017
Researchers from across the Institute gathered at the Wellcome Trust on Thursday 23 November for our fourth annual Research Away Day.
Director, Professor Stephen Porter and Head of Research, Dr Laurent Bozec, opened the programme with the yearly review of achievements and outcomes.
The event also featured a variety of external speakers; we were extremely honoured to host Colby Benari from UCL Academic Careers, and Martin Davies, Director of UCL Innovation and Enterprise.
Meanwhile Professor Jonathan Knowles gave an update on his prestigious H2020 TEAMING grant to improve the field of regenerative and precision medicine in Portugal based upon UCL best practices.
Professor Stefano Fedele also gave an update on the UCLH BRC Oral Health & Disease theme funded by the NIHR, setting the scene for portfolio trials over the next 5 years. This will support more and more integrated research between the Eastman Dental Institute (UCL) and Hospital (NHS).
The Institute of Healthcare Engineering flagship programme, Innovation in Oral Health for 21st Century Challenges, was also represented by both Dr Hanson and Professor D’Aiuto.
Finally, PHD students took part in poster and 3MT competitions which really illustrated the breadth and depth of our current research portfolio.
Mark Emberton, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, kindly presented the prizes:
