A Typical day at UCL Day Nursery
Baby unit
UCL Baby Unit offer a balanced routine of adult led and child led structured activities, which aim to support their Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Communication development.
The activities well planned by staff with the individual needs and interests of the children in mind and according to the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
Although no two days are the same at nursery, here is an example of what tends
to happen:
8.30 | The children are welcomed by the early shift keyworkers and peers and settle in the gym for some free activities. Children will be offered breakfast should they require it. |
9.30 | Late shift keyworkers arrive and the children divide into their own rooms. |
9.30-10.00 | Children have the choice to play with the well-planned activities set out both indoors and outdoors to support their learning development enabling them to create, explore and discovery through play. |
10.00 - 10.15 | Morning snacks and drinks. |
10.15 - 11.15 | Children will either go outside or use the gym and heuristic room. These areas are again set up with activities to support their learning. |
11.15 - 11.30 | Story/song sack time. |
11.30 - 12.00 | Lunch is served to all the children, a time to engage in conversation with our peers and keyworkers. After being washed the children, get ready for a nap. |
12.00 - 12.30 | All the children go down for a nap; children normally sleep between 1-2 hours. |
1.30 – 2.00 | Children start waking up and have afternoon snacks and drinks. |
2.00 – 3.00 | Children have the choice to play with the well-planned activities set out both indoors and outdoors to support their learning development enabling them to create, explore and discovery through play. |
3.00 – 3.30 | Children will either go outside or use the gym and heuristic room. These areas are again set up with activities to support their learning. |
3.30 | Tea is served to the children, once again a time to engage in conversation with our peers and keyworkers |
4.00 | Children will either go outside or use the gym and heuristic room for stories/song sack time. |
4.30-5.20 | Children start to leave for home, during this time the children use both indoors and outdoors enjoying a relaxed time with their peers until they are collected. |
Each room schedules nappy change times every two-three hours throughout the day. Our staff are also constantly checking the children to see if they need changing in between these times.
