Members' Event: The Big Bone Clean

Workshop
 |
Grant Museum of Zoology
26th Jun 2022
Rockefeller Building, 21 University St, London WC1E 6DE

11am-12.30pm or 1-2.30pm (booking essential)

If you have ever wondered how we clean our skulls and skeletons, now is your chance to find out!

Join us for an exclusive Members' event at the Grant Museum of Zoology and become a conservator for the day with Conservator Emilia Kingham and Head of Zoology and Science Collections, Tannis Davidson.

Learn why and how the specimens in the collection are cleaned, and watch a demonstration from our Conservator of some of the most important conservation cleaning techniques used in the Museum.

Get hands on with skulls and skeletal specimens and practise dry cleaning techniques yourself, getting tips and advice as you go. You will be able to complete the cleaning of a whole specimen within this session.

What happens if a specimen has more complex cleaning requirements? We will talk you through some wet cleaning and laser cleaning techniques, and show how they can benefit a museum like the Grant Museum.

There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask your burning questions about museum conservation, so come prepared!

This event is suitable for children aged 12 and over.

Please note that filming will be taking place on the day.
