My research is about religious minorities, their institutions, and their political culture. I also study the relations between communities, especially religion, non-religion and society.

I always was curious about politics and history, and how communities - especially minority communities - improve their lives. The Jewish community in Eastern Europe, once the largest in the world, is therefore at the centre of my work.
