I ask questions which make familiar things unfamiliar. Like: How do our words get to mean what they mean? Or: since we cannot do experiments on numbers, how come we can learn about mathematics?

I grew up in London. I studied and taught at Cambridge, before coming to UCL in 2019. My day job is to learn, think, and teach others about deeply interesting things. My other jobs didn't let me do that, so I feel lucky.
