13 February 2015

UCL is where philanthropy helps big ideas to take root, grow and blossom.

UCL was established through philanthropy and today, donations from individuals continue to support academic programmes, scholarships and the UCL estate. Over 8,000 people give a regular gift of anywhere between £3 and millions, and alumni and friends volunteer in numerous activities which help current students, UCL's world class research and fellow graduates.Philanthropic work at UCL isn't just about supporting projects, but principles: to break down barriers; to provide opportunities; to challenge convention; and to solve problems. Since 1826, donors to UCL have helped us remain true to our founding principles of innovation, accessibility and relevance.Philanthropy Month

Throughout February 2015, UCL is holding Philanthropy Month to celebrate those who support the University, either by giving their time or financial support. As Jeremy Bentham, our philosophical founder, was one of the first investors in UCL, our Philanthropy Month activities will culminate in a record attempt to gather the largest number of people wearing Jeremy Bentham facemasks in one place on campus.
