In collaboration with outreach partners Thinking Black, UCL Computer Science students visited Amazon Web Services (AWS) headquarters in London, gaining invaluable insights into career opportunities in the tech industry.

The visit provided an in-depth exploration of the diverse career opportunities in the rapidly evolving tech world and highlighted the vital role of innovation and continuous learning.

The session was facilitated in partnership with Thinking Black, a social enterprise which aims to inspire students from black communities into computer science.

Through panel discussions, students were able to explore different career options at Amazon, ranging from software development and data analytics to marketing and sales. The visit also highlighted the importance of innovation, creativity, and continuous learning in the fast-paced tech sector.

Students had the chance to engage with employees from various departments, gaining firsthand knowledge about the company culture, career paths, and the skills required to succeed in the tech industry.

The educational initiative not only provided valuable insights into careers at AWS but also served as a platform for students to connect with industry professionals, ask questions, and seek guidance on their career paths.

By fostering a spirit of curiosity and exploration, the visit aimed to inspire and empower students to pursue their passions and aspirations in the field of technology.

Feedback from participating students was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing newfound enthusiasm and interest in pursuing careers in technology. One student remarked, "The session was very insightful. I never realised the diverse range of opportunities available at Amazon Web Services. This experience has opened my eyes to the exciting possibilities in the tech industry."

As the tech industry continues to evolve and expand, initiatives like these play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of tech talent. By providing students with firsthand exposure to real-world career opportunities and industry insights, educational initiatives such as this one help bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional success.

UCL Computer Science would like to thank Dr Rashada Harry and Tonie Odeniyi for making our students feel welcome and organising a great session at Amazon Web Services offices.
