Leverhulme Lecture on Ancient Chinese Starch

Two Lunch hour lectures are to be given by

researchgate.net/profile/Xiaoyan_Yang" target="_self"> Dr YANG Xiaoyan, from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources research), who is currently a Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professor (2014-2015) at the UCL Institute of Archaeology, carrying out archaeobotanical research on south China, including research on the transition to rice farming, in collaboration with the UCL Early Rice project.

This lecture will report on new research that indicates the use of starchy foods (tuber, palm starch, bananas) was important in Guangdong before the introduction of rice agriculture.
