The Michelle Zalkin Scholarship

This scholarship offers exceptional students with a proven interest in child protection the chance to undertake an MSc in Paediatrics and Child Health.

Background

This Scholarship was established in memory of Dr Michelle Zalkin to promote excellence in safeguarding and child protection. It offers exceptional students with a proven interest in child protection the chance to undertake the UCL Masters in Paediatrics and Child Health. Michelle gained a distinction on the MSc course, then worked in Community Paediatrics specialising in child protection before her untimely death at the age of 40 in 2013.   The scholarship was established by Michelle’s family and friends to encourage the next generation to continue and build upon her work.

Value

The Michelle Zalkin Scholarship is an individual award of £10,000 for a maximum of one student per academic year.  The award amount will be deducted from the cost of fees and any additional monies given to the successful student as a cheque payment at the start of the programme.

Eligibility

The award is for applicants who have an unconditional or conditional offer to study the UCL MSc in Paediatrics and Child Health programme for entry in September 2020 full time or modular/flexible. Applicants from other programmes are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply for this scholarship.

Selection criteria

Students will be assessed on the basis of the scholarship application form and in particular on their personal statement, as well as their original application for the course. The selected student will be academically strong and have a focus on child protection in their daily work. An interview will be conducted to assess commitment to child protection.

Successful applicants will be contacted the 3rd August 2020. If you have not heard from us by this date we regret that your application has been unsuccessful.
