I’m an epidemiologist and Honorary Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist. My interest is in the predictors of outcome for children with eye disease, and the translation of these findings to practice and policy. I fell in love with Epidemiology at medical school after hearing about John Snow, and fancied myself as a future medical detective. I was a PhD student at ICH PPP, and I’ve stayed because of the warmth, generosity and cross-disciplinary nature of my department, and the quality and impact of our outputs – as well as the strong relationships between ICH, GOSH and the other UCL partners such as the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields. What do I think of being selected as an EDI Role Model? It’s an honour, but to paraphrase Chimamanda Ngozi A​d​i​c​h​i​e, “We should all be role models”. We are all responsible for creating an environment where our colleagues feel welcome and heard.
