At the forefront of organic synthesis research is the development of new robust, efficient, and practical methods. Single-electron chemistry (radical chemistry)-based methods have been surpassed by two-electron chemistry (polar chemistry)-based methods, despite offering complementary reactivity and often milder reaction conditions. It will be demonstrated in this seminar how radical-based strategies can address fundamental problems in organic synthesis – limitation of polar-chemistry – and enable the development of general and practical methods for assembling functionally-rich molecules.
