I attended one of UCL’s free Science Center lectures in 6th form given by a lecturer from the chemistry department I was impressed by the quality of their lecture as well as the cutting edge research.

Why did you choose your degree?

Chemical research plays a vital role in addressing modern problems such as climate change or fighting disease through the development of new drugs and delivery techniques. The practical nature of chemistry appealed to me in addition to the degree being intellectually stimulating.

Why did you apply to study at UCL?

I attended one of UCL’s free Science Center lectures in 6th form given by a lecturer from the chemistry department. I was impressed by the quality of their lecture as well as the cutting edge research produced by the department and decided to apply.

What is the best thing about your course?

The quality of the teaching - I believe UCL Chemistry has given me a strong foundation in chemistry and laboratory skills to thrive in a research setting.

What do you find interesting about your field of study and what inspires you?

I am interested in biomimicry, self-assembly, and thermoelectric chemistry.

Do you think studying at UCL Chemistry is a good investment?

Yes! You study cutting edge developments in Chemistry taught by specialists. There are many opportunities to interact with professors and engage as part of UCL’s chemistry community. There are various research opportunities and student feedback is valued, and acted on by the department.

What is it like studying in London and how do you think it has benefited your studies?

There are many enriching things to do in the city from volunteering to going to museums. Many big companies are located in the city and participate in networking events at UCL and offer internships all over the city.

What are your career plans once you’ve completed your current programme of study at UCL?

Obtain a postgraduate education in Chemistry.

Is there anything else you would like to say about your time at UCL Chemistry?

UCL Chemistry’s department truly cares about its students and makes it possible to succeed academically whilst having time for extracurricular activities.
