On 24 February 2024, the UCL Department of Chemical Engineering proudly celebrated its 100-year milestone with an Alumni Centenary Event on campus.
Graduates spanning eight decades, from the 1950s to recent years, converged on the historic Bloomsbury campus at UCL for a day filled with reflection, discussion, and connection.
The event kicked off with guided tours of both the Bloomsbury campus, steeped in tradition and history, and the innovative UCL East campus, symbolising the department's commitment to the future of engineering education and research. Alumni had the opportunity to witness firsthand the evolution of UCL's infrastructure over the past century.
A highlight of the day was a panel discussion featuring graduates from different decades, offering a unique perspective on the journey of the UCL Department of Chemical Engineering over the past 100 years. From sharing fond memories of their time at UCL to discussing the challenges and triumphs they've encountered throughout their careers, the panelists painted a vivid picture of the department's rich history and enduring legacy.
Following the panel discussion, attention turned to the present and future of the UCL Department of Chemical Engineering with a presentation showcasing the department's research themes. From sustainability and renewable energy to advanced materials and process engineering, attendees gained valuable insights into the cutting-edge research driving innovation within the field.
The event culminated in a poster exhibition and networking session, providing alumni with the opportunity to connect with current students and faculty members. Through lively discussions and exchanges of ideas, attendees forged new connections and strengthened existing ones, reaffirming the sense of community and camaraderie that defines the UCL Chemical Engineering family.
Many alumni joined us for the Ramsay Society Centenary Dinner in the evening, continuing the celebrations and fostering even deeper connections among generations of graduates. As the day drew to a close, it was clear that the Alumni Centenary Event had not only celebrated a century of excellence but also laid the foundation for the next chapter in the department's illustrious history.
Here's to another 100 years of innovation, collaboration, and success!
