The Department of Chemical Engineering at UCL is very proud of our students: Oskar Beneton, Muhamad El-Tawil, Sharon Mohan Kumar, Alya Mohamed Fauzi, Klajdi Sina, Abhimanthampi Thamberajah, who worked together as a team (Double eight dynasty) to put together an entry for the 2021 IChemE Macnab-Lacey award, and were returned as joint runners-up. The students will be presented with certificates.

The team’s entry was based on their third year capstone design project entitled: A Leading Production of Styrene – via Biomass-Derived Ethylene in Alberta, Canada. Their entry combined work from four different deliverables on the design project, with an emphasis on key areas such as: sustainability, hot spot analysis, gate-to-gate life cycle assessment (LCA) and heat integration of the process.

It should be highlighted that the students completed the entire design project virtually, during the pandemic with amazing teamwork and a professional attitude. They also put together their submission to the IChemE whilst they were either on internships, or in newly secured graduate positions in industry - a further testament to their dedication.

Many congratulations to the team once again!
