Abstract

We all know that engineering projects require expert levels of engineering knowledge, but did you also know that all those engineering projects are accomplished in teams, and that some teams can have tens of engineers? In this lecture we summarise what we teach in our first year of Chemical Engineering at UCL. In Design and Professional Skills, we will teach you how to tackle engineering problems and how to effectively communicate and present information. We will teach how to better understand team dynamics and also further develop your thinking strategies. Alongside all of that, you will be working on a project which aims at solving a global issue while being constrained by limited resources. Did we mention that you will be working in your first inter-departmental team while on this project? When you acquire minimum levels of Chemical Engineering technical expertise, you will have your first Scenario. These technically challenging team-based Scenarios will further test and expand your knowledge in a time limited context - just the same way a real life engineer would work!

Presented by:

Presenters: Elton Dias, Lecturer (Teaching) at UCL Chemical Engineering
