Summer Schools

We hold a series of outreach activities throughout the year, aiming to bring the excitement of chemical engineering closer to the general public and to inspire budding young chemical engineers.

The department takes part in a number of outreach activities organised by UCL centrally for students both in Years 7-11 and in Years 12-13.

The activities give you an understanding of the benefits of higher education and insight into the different degrees that you can study at UCL. Activities for Years 12 and 13 students are designed to give you a better understanding of university life at a research-intensive university such as UCL.

The Headstart course

This residential summer school runs during June and July and is open to year 12 students.

The goal of this Headstart course is to provide students with an understanding of what a career in chemical engineering might entail, which skills are required and how a typical chemical engineering project may be approached and tackled.

You will experience life as a first year student by staying in undergraduate halls of residence. You will participate in practical activities which enable you to meet fantastic engineering role models, engage in hands-on workshops and laboratory sessions, as well as receive information related to admissions and future career prospects.

Inspire Taster Course

The Inspire residential courses take place in the summer term and are open to year 10 and 11 students.

You will be introduced to several branches of engineering or science combining hands-on STE(A)M activities/projects, lectures and workshops, whilst meeting and working with undergraduates, postgraduates, technicians and academics who will share their experiences and own achievements.
