Chunbing Huang, MSc Graduate 2016

ChunbingHuang

After completing my BEng in Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, I decided to pursue a postgraduate degree in Chemical Process Engineering to gain more knowledge that I needed to improve myself for the future. I chose UCL as it is globally famous with high reputation and excellent location. The MSc Chemical Process Engineering in UCL was attractive and well-organised.

The programme provided various optional modules and I could pick whatever I wanted according to my interest and need. These modules were pretty interesting and presented with high quality. It was really impressive that I could have many opportunities to academically collaborate with lecturers and professors in different sessions.

The most exciting experience at UCL was the Research Project. The department offered many candidate projects for the MSc students to choose from. My research project “Bringing plant potential to life through optimisation of travelling traders’ exchanges” made me have an unforgettable experience. In this project, I got the opportunity to collaborate with the modelling experts from Syngenta Company.

I learned many things from my supervisor Dr Federico Galvanin who was also my personal tutor and the lecturer of Process Systems Modelling and Design. Federico was very nice and patient. He helped me a lot during my research and offered many encouraging suggestions and feedback. I don’t think I could have completed the research project with an excellent grade without him. The MSc was challenging and exciting. This rewarding programme will make me always remember this period at the UCL Chemical Engineering Department.

Living in London was amazing. The city life in London was totally different from what I experienced in other cities of the UK. The excellent location of UCL made it easy to provide me with not only high quality education but also convenient life.
