British Myology Society

The British Myology Society (BMS) is a multidisciplinary professional body of experts founded in 2009. It aims to promote clinical practice, education and clinical trials in relation to muscle disease, myasthenia gravis and spinal muscular atrophy. It is intended to be a forum of consultants, junior doctors and allied health professionals, with professional expertise in myology,  to consider these issues.

The British Myology Society has current membership of around 140 and runs a number of very successful meetings / conferences, both physically and online, for members and also some events for non-members.

The British Myology Society Website is currently undergoing redesign.

Events run by the British Myology Society in the meantime will be circulated to the BMS mailing list, and promoted on X (formerly Twitter).

The BMS is registered with the Charity Commission (registration number 1142966).

The BMS Annual Meeting is a 2 day event which attracts the country’s foremost neuromuscular clinicians and allied professionals; and is aimed (as in previous years) at education of neuromuscular specialists and sharing the latest knowledge and developments in this area of practice.

British Myology Society Adult Muscle Teaching Day 2025

The extremely popular and well-reviewed BMS Adult Muscle Teaching Day is a 1 day event aimed at education of junior / early career stage clinicians with neuromuscular involvement.

British Myology Society Muscle MRI Workshop 2025

Tue 25th November 2025

About this event: This event will cover topics in muscle MRI of relevance to neurologists, rheumatologists and musculoskeletal radiologists.

Format: online event

Content focus:

  • interpretation of muscle MRI and pattern recognition for various genetic muscle and neurogenic disorders and acquired inflammatory myopathies

Delegates will be invited to present challenging cases during this workshop and there will be the opportunity for general discussion.

Who is this event aimed at: The specialist with an expertise in neuromuscular disorders and at trainees, and will attract audiences spanning adult and paediatric medicine

This event is will be primarily useful to clinicians / researchers at specialty training or consultant level in the areas of neurology, neurophysiology, radiology, rheumatology and neuropathology.
