Paper published in JCP by Ornella Gonzato, EEC patient expert

Ornella Gonzato, an EEC patient expert based in Italy has written a paper on the patient perspective on access to innovative drugs and how access should not just be limited to patients with the more common cancers. She discusses the issues, interdependencies and risk-sharing. She summarises that the ‘core driver’ from the patient point of view is that: “When you are faced with a rare cancer, you really can’t wait.” The paper is called ‘The new risk-sharing paradigm in rare cancers: Patient perspective’ and was published in the Journal of Cancer Policy.

EEC are supporting Unite2Cure in their campaign to improve access to new drugs for trials in young people

The EURO EWING Consortium supports the Unite2Cure campaign to change European Paediatric Medicine Regulation as there is a need for better access to allow testing of new treatments for rare cancers like Ewing sarcoma, that mainly affect young people. Survival rates have not improved for 25 years and so new drugs and innovative trials are needed to make sure that more people are cured from this rare cancer.
