Action observation: perceptual learning and inference.
My research focuses on human social interaction, specifically upon our ability to infer beliefs and intentions in other minds. Little is known about the neural basis of our ability to 'read' the intentions of others, but a very likely candidate is the mirror neuron system. Current projects investigate how someone else's intentions can be inferred by the mirror neuron system by considering the mirror neuron system within a predictive coding framework which appeals to empirical Bayes
1) Lateralisation of the mirror neuron system in humans
2) Influence of observer's orientation and posture on activity in the mirror neuron system.
3) Bayesian properties of inference and learning in the human mirror neuron system.
