Dr Duygu Dikicioglu, shortly to join UCL Biochemical Engineering, was one of the authors of a paper awarded a prize by Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering

Duygu and her colleagues at the Cambridge System Biology Centre in the University of Cambridge were given the Best Paper Award 2019 of Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering for the paper “A heuristic approach to handling missing data in biologics manufacturing databases,” you can find the paper here

"[in this paper] we explore how to deal with gaps in bioprocess data sets, in order to use them for machine learning models that could improve efficiency in the biotech industry. This is an introductory paper on our work. We just put it out there to let people know we're working on this. When we started working on it, everybody had a feeling that this was an important thing, so we're really happy that our work has been taken well by the community. The two students who contributed to the work the most, Nisha and Jet, are delighted about their prize token and are looking forward to devouring some e-books on a range of subjects. I will keep on working on the exploration of bioprocesses through formal and data-driven models to gain novel insight on, and improve the productivity and efficiency of biological systems after my move in April this year.
