Work experience pupil won In2scienceUK Image competition

21 October 2016

Ilham Ibrahim won In2science’s “Image Comp' 2016: Category - The faces of science”, which was decided by the Abcam expert panel. She and Happy Imafidon spent two weeks as work experience students at the Department working with Luis Erick Mota Pacheco and Roberto Icken Hernandez Lopez.

The two pupils learnt how to produce and purify an enzyme called Transketolase, which is important for the production of polyalcohol a building block for pharmaceuticals. At the end of their time with us they presented their work to some of our scientist.

Ilham and Happy applied with In2science for the work experience. In2scienceUK is a charity that gives young people from low-income backgrounds the opportunity to work alongside research scientists on cutting edge science throughout the summer. Over the summer ten year 11 & 12 pupils did a work experience in The Department of Biochemical Engineering. Beside In2science we supported the Nuffield Foundation this year.
