8 November 2023

We’re delighted to announce that BSP's Professor Catalina Turcu will be joining UCL's team at COP28, the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, to be held from 30 November to 12 December in the United Arab Emirates.

The 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) hosted by the United Arab Emirates between 30 November and 12 December 2023 will focus on climate solutions and actions, gathering scientists, decision makers and relevant stakeholders from around the world.

Professor Catalina Turcu from The Bartlett School of Planning will join the UCL Team as a cities expert to speak about challenge-driven research and her UCL SDG Research Accelerator across a range of thematic and scientific sessions. She will also support Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN) activities and advocate for the inclusion of women and local knowledge in climate work.

Professor Turcu’s work shows that addressing climate change in cities remains largely a social and political challenge, not a technical fix. She would like to contribute to a more developed discussion on urban adaptation at COP28, particularly in relation to: measures and solutions for vulnerable communities; financial and institutional roadmaps for local government; and new models of collaboration between cities such as trans-local networks.
