The UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage has received a donation of £60,000 from Ecclesiastical Insurance for student scholarships for the Master of Science programme in Sustainable Heritage.

One student per year will benefit from the UCL Ecclesiastical Insurance Bursary over the next three years.

Professor May Cassar, Director of the UCL Institute of Sustainable Heritage, said: “I am delighted that Ecclesiastical Insurance has chosen to donate to the UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage, the Ecclesiastical Insurance Bursary. We have had a relationship with Ecclesiastical since 2004 and many students have benefited from the bursary with a world class education in sustainable heritage. We are very grateful for their generosity and commitment to the next generation of heritage professionals”.

The Sustainable Heritage programme focuses on management and sustainability of cultural heritage worldwide. It includes the cross-disciplinary study of current conservation policies, projects, methodologies and practice in the context of historic buildings, collections, site and landscapes.

Paul Bloxham, Niche Director of Heritage, said: “Preserving and protecting our heritage for future generations is a core purpose of Ecclesiastical Insurance, and we are both honoured and pleased with our sponsorship of this programme and  our long association with UCL'.

Applications are now open for the Ecclesiastical Insurance Bursary. High-calibre candidates are invited to apply.  The bursary will cover course fees and subsistence depending on the status of the applicant. The MSc in Sustainable Heritage offered by the UCL Institute of Sustainable Heritage uses an MBA-style block teaching model, allowing time and space for reflection and study. Teaching takes place in business-like small groups, and students are encouraged to show initiative in their studies.
