Designed for a new generation of heritage leaders, the MSc Sustainable Heritage programme provides the interdisciplinary skills needed to deliver the heritage programmes and projects of the future.

The MSc Sustainable Heritage attracts students from all over the world and offers them a life-changing experience. Our students vary from architects, to surveyors, to curators, to many who have never worked in the heritage sector before.

Recently we carried out an alumni student survey where students were able to rate the course and the impact it has had on their career development. The results were very positive and highlight the multi-disciplinary nature of the course. Past students praised the course for introducing them to different career paths and opportunities. The survey showed that 9 out of 10 graduates from the last 5 years have got a job or are pursuing a PhD or other further study.

87% of students who answered the survey agreed that the programme had a positive impact on their careers and students went on to work in a variety of different roles. These included:

•             National Project Manager at English Heritage

•             Education Assistant in a Sculpture Garden

•             Educational Coordinator at Education Ministry

•             Curator at Government Art Collection

•             Projects Building Surveyor, National Trust

•             First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Egypt

•             Freelance preventive conservator

•             PhD in Cultural Heritage

•             Director architect

Students were asked to comment on their experience of the MSc in Sistainable Heritage:

It's an amazing course and I'm sure it helped me get my job at Historic England
It gave me the confidence to set up my own business and start trading successfully to date’
The MSc in Sustainable Heritage provided a thorough grounding in conservation/heritage philosophy and interpretation. In addition, the multidisciplinary approach to the care and management of heritage objects/collections/structures enabled me to gain an important understanding of the processes, people and expertise involved in sustaining and protecting our heritage. This has served me well, during my career at English Heritage.
My dissertation dealt with informal education in the heritage sector thus getting me into the education sector coordinating an informal education programme’
Even though my current job does not directly link to heritage, my MSc Sustainable Heritage at UCL has helped me much in widen my network and perspective to heritage related issues and I am hoping to get a heritage related position in the government’
The MSc opened my eyes to, and gave an introduction to, many possible new career paths.  Preventive conservation was a particularly interesting area of study and I've taken my career in this direction...so far.’
The course gave me a wider understanding of heritage study by bringing students from different backgrounds together.
