Students from the Health, Wellbeing and Sustainable Buildings carry out inclusive design survey

As part of the module Designing Inclusive Places, students of the Health, Wellbeing and Sustainable Buildings MSc programme visited the Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE) on 15 March.

cae student visit 2018

This module introduces the notion of vulnerability and inclusive design within the context of health and wellbeing in buildings and at the neighbourhood scale. It discusses these notions from the perspective of various people related factors (e.g. depending on age, health/wellbeing conditions, socioeconomic status and social exclusion, etc.), and within relevant building types.

For the purposes of their coursework, the MSc students were invited to consider the practical application and role of regulations when considering an existing building in central London.

They were asked to critically appraise the influence of legislation and standards on this facility and its management in use, and highlight any changes they would recommend in a design brief for a new facility of similar size, to achieve the spatial, visual and acoustic performance for a wide spectrum of anticipated user needs.
