As part of the module Designing Inclusive Places, students of the Health, Wellbeing and Sustainable Buildings MSc programme visited the Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE) on 15 March.
This module introduces the notion of vulnerability and inclusive design within the context of health and wellbeing in buildings and at the neighbourhood scale. It discusses these notions from the perspective of various people related factors (e.g. depending on age, health/wellbeing conditions, socioeconomic status and social exclusion, etc.), and within relevant building types.
They were asked to critically appraise the influence of legislation and standards on this facility and its management in use, and highlight any changes they would recommend in a design brief for a new facility of similar size, to achieve the spatial, visual and acoustic performance for a wide spectrum of anticipated user needs.
