Professor Jian Kang becomes President Elect of International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration

30 July 2021

Professor Jian Kang, FREng, MAE, at the UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, The Bartlett, has become President Elect of International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV).

Prof Jian Kang

The purpose of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV) is to advance the science of acoustics and vibration by creating an international scientific society that is responsive to the needs of scientists and engineers in all countries whose primary interests are in the fields of acoustics and vibration. The Institute cooperates with scientific societies in all countries and with other international organisations with the aim of increasing information exchange by sponsoring, cosponsoring or supporting seminars, workshops, congresses, and publishing journals, newsletters and other publications.

The IIAV organises a premier world event, the International Congress on Sound and Vibration (ICSV), which combines all areas of acoustics, noise and vibration, and attracts over 1,000 attendees annually.

Professor Jian Kang has worked in environmental and architectural acoustics for 30+ years, and he was the General Chair of the 24th International Congress on Sound and Vibration (ICSV24), held in London in 2017.

He said of the recent appointment:

It is a great pleasure to serve the Institute of Acoustics and Vibration. Acoustics is a discipline spanning physics, engineering, and human sciences. I hope it can also be further integrated into various facets of built environment.”
