Apply now: Research Fellow in BIM Geometric Modelling
9 July 2020
The Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering is seeking a post-doctoral research fellow to develop research and contribute to a new European Commission Horizon 2020 project: BIM-based holistic tools for energy-driven Renovation of existing Residences (BIMERR).
Duties and Responsibilities
The UCL Institute for Environmental Design & Engineering (UCL IEDE) delivers world-leading research, teaching and enterprise towards a goal of making our buildings, towns and cities better places in which to live, with a focus on health, human well-being, productivity, energy use and climate change.
We are seeking a post-doctoral research fellow to develop research and contribute to a new European Commission Horizon 2020 project, named BIMERR (BIM-based holistic tools for energy-driven Renovation of existing Residences). This is an opportunity to join an international multi-disciplinary project and contribute to the development of a data quality checking and semantic enrichment tools for Building Information Models.
The successful candidate will be expected to work with noisy and uncertain data and develop geometric checking tools and semi-automated data correction algorithms. The successful applicant will have to create processes and tools to fuse CityGML and IFC geometric data and use these towards data-quality improvement, or enrichment for specific uses (e.g. energy modelling). The candidate will work closely with other members of the project towards the integration of these tools with the BIM platform and other components (Scan-to-BIM and Occupant Modelling) being developed by other partners.
This post is available from September 1st, 2020 and is funded for 12 months in the first instance, further funding to support the post may be available
Key Requirements
The ideal candidate has excellent knowledge and expertise in openBIM (Industry Foundation Classes) standards. The candidate should be able to develop, implement BIM geometric processing algorithm and tools and integrate them within the project workflows.
