UCL IEDE is awarded £70k EU funding for research into low carbon straw bale housing insulation

13 February 2019

A research project directed by IEDE’s Ben Croxford will be awarded the funding for research into how bio based composite materials can be used to bind the chopped straw which is used as insulation for prefabricated housing.

Straw Bale Housing

IEDE will work with Modcell Ltd. who produce straw bale insulation for large scale carbon negative housing projects.  The project will test a number of composites for thermal conductivity, workability and potential for commercial application.  The project aims to improve the production and sustainability of low carbon housing and provide environmentally sound solutions to the UK housing crisis.
