Effects of sound environment on health and behaviour from planning perspective

With the development of rapid urbanisation, the significance of urban planning determining human wellbeing, is increasingly valued. Urban planning plays an important role on sound environments, which, in turn, has a significant impact on human health and behaviours. However, previous studies only investigated the impact of sound environments on health and behaviour by focusing on individuals rather than cities (i.e. in spatial context). Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the effects of sound environment on health and behaviour from the perspective of urban planning. From this research, it is expected that a novel perspective will be provided for urban planners to build a liveable city from the sound environment and its impact, leading to more effective noise management strategies and planning progress for different cities/areas.
