Research summary

Olivier Dessens joined the UCL Energy Institute / ISR team in May 2011. His expertise lies in the fields of atmospheric and climate modelling with strong skills in anthropogenic/biogenic emissions and their effects on the atmosphere. At UCL he contributes to the support of the Integrated Assessment Modelling PAGE09 (ISR) and the global energy systems integrated assessment model TIAM-UCL (Energy Institute) with focus on the climate module.

Olivier was the UCL PI for HELIX (http://helixclimate.eu/home), a 4 years FP7 project started in 11/2013 to explore consequences and responses to the challenge of high-end global warming.

Olivier is also involved in the H2020 RIPPLES and Grantham Foundation "food security" projects.

Teaching summary

At the UCL Energy Institute Olivier is giving seminars (climate change, integrated assessment modelling) and supervising dissertation and PhD students.

Biography

Olivier was previously employed at the Centre for Atmospheric Science, Cambridge University. He was contributing to the development of different atmospheric models (CTM and GCM). He was studying the impact of anthropogenic emissions on climate (present and future emissions from transport sectors) and the interaction between energy/economy and climate (low carbon economy impact on atmospheric composition).
