About SERL

SERL aims to deliver a world leading multi-disciplinary research programme, facilitated by a smart meter data portal, transforming GB energy research through the long-term provision of high quality, high-resolution energy data that will support the development of a reliable evidence base for intervention, observational and longitudinal studies across the socio-technical spectrum.

About the role

The main purpose of this role is to undertake energy demand research using SERL data and to develop a range of data analysis, data quality, data linking and other data management processes to ensure SERL data is research-ready and fit for purpose.

As a core member of the SERL team, this post will undertake research across the SERL research programme and provide key input to the design and development of the SERL research portal. As such, this role will be required to engage with SERL partners (particularly the Big Data team at the University of Essex), and a range of SERL stakeholders (including BEIS and other government departments).

The post is funded until 27 August 2022 in the first instance.

Key Requirements

Our ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant field, or close to completion, or equivalent relevant experience (including relevant experience in non-academic organizations); expertise in developing and applying machine learning algorithms or other relevant statistical methods using large, complex energy datasets; demonstrable experience conducting hands-on quantitative analyses using granular (household-level) smart meter data (or similar).

Required skills include expertise in managing or analysing large and/or complex datasets.
