UCL Energy's Matt Winning performs at Edinburgh Fringe
24 August 2017
Matt Winning’s comedy show ’Filibuster’, inspired by his day job at UCL-Energy, opens at Edinburgh Fringe festival.
Billed as a show about climate change, Research Associate Matt Winning’s performance describes ‘how global warming is destroying both the planet and his life’.
In a recent Interview with The Guardian Matt discussed his work and the show “I spend all of my other time thinking about serious things. Standup has always been an escape, so I’ve tended to do obscure, silly stuff. But this year’s show is a lecture about climate change. And I’m trying to make it as heavy as possible.”
He talked about how balancing his academic life and standup comedy has mutual benefits, making teaching and speaking at academic conferences less of a nerve-wracking experience and vice-versa. He also alluded to how when he is teaching he tries to throw in some jokes.
Catch Matt performing Filibuster at Just the Tonic at The Mash House August 24th-27th at 17.00, tickets are available here.
