Members of UCL Energy Institute pay tribute to Professor David Mackay

15 April 2016

David Mackay

Members of UCL Energy Institute have paid tribute to Professor David Mackay, former DECC Chief Scientific Advisor and friend to UCL-Energy, who passed away yesterday:

“All those working for the mitigation of climate change and for a low-carbon energy system will be very sad to hear of the death of David Mackay. As a very fine scientist and engineer, he was passionate about the need to achieve huge reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, but was also clear-eyed about the magnitude of the transformation in the energy system that would be required to achieve this.

"A number of us at the UCL Energy Institute were privileged to work with him in these areas. We will do our best without him to build on his substantial legacy.”

Professor Tadj Oreszczyn, Director, The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources
Professor Robert Lowe, Director of the UCL Energy Institute
Professor Paul Ekins, Deputy Director of the UK Energy Research Centre
