UCL-Energy student wins Best Student Poster at British Institute conference

4 October 2012

Will Usher celebrated winning the Andrew Holmes Memorial Award for the Best Student Poster at the British Institute of Energy Economics (BIEE) 9th Academic Conference (19-20 September 2012).

Will Usher

He received a cheque for £500 and congratulations from the BIEE's conference panel. Will's poster and presentation received first prize in a close competition against nine other student posters.

His poster was titled "Identifying Uncertainties in Energy System Models". By applying existing conceptual frameworks of uncertainty to Energy System Models, Will showed how existing methods for treating uncertainties in Energy System Models could be improved.  He suggested recognising the flexibility available to policy by taking a dynamic approach to the treatment uncertainty.  For example, some uncertainties can be resolved over time through conducting research or waiting-and-learning.

Will is in the first year of a 3 1/2 year PhD program "Uncertainty in Energy System Models" and is funded under an Industrial Case Studentship, jointly supported by EDF Energy and EPSRC.
