Cambridge summer event

Students from the London-Loughborough Centre (LoLo) for Doctoral Research in Energy Demand attended the annual Summer Event on 28th and 29th June at Clare Hall in Cambridge. Students from both the UCL Energy Institute and Loughborough University, the partner universities for the LoLo Centre, enjoyed working together on creative projects related to reducing heat loss in the home.

Each of the 21 students also had the opportunity to deliver a short presentation about their project to significant stakeholders from the LoLo Advisory board including representatives from ARUP, Crest Nicholson PLC, E.ON, EDF and CIBSE to get valuable feedback. David Adams, chair of the board and Technical Director at Willmott Dixon Energy Services and Director of Zero Carbon Hub told students, “I think what really struck [the board] was the enthusiasm and the passion that is coming across. Your topics are highly relevant so whilst you’re doing your research, don’t underestimate that people will be really interested in what you come out with… people will want to know more so you will be delivering something of real value.”

Faye Wade, as a representative of UCL-Energy students said of the event: “It’s nice to see people from the ‘real world’ and see they are interested. It’s very reassuring to know our work is important”.
