Guardian journalist joins UCL-Energy as a Visiting Researcher

5 July 2012

Duncan Clark

Journalist, author, publisher and campaigner Duncan Clark has joined the UCL Energy Institute as a Visiting Researcher. Here he tells us about his hopes for this new relationship:

'I'm very excited to be joining the UCL Energy Institute as a Visiting Researcher. I've spent most of the last decade focusing on energy and climate change as a journalist, author, publisher and campaigner. That has usually meant working at the interface between academic research and the public and political spheres, so it's great to be building a relationship with an organisation where so much world-class energy research happens.

Currently I'm co-authoring a book that takes a popular big-picture look at climate change, trying to join the dots between the science, economics, politics and psychology of what has become a sprawling issue. It will be great to be able to draw on the Institute's expertise and library in my research for that project.

I'm also a writer and consultant editor on the Guardian environment desk, so I'll be keeping an ear to the ground for energy-related stories. A third possible area of collaboration is data visualisation, which is something I've been exploring recently in a new partnership called Kiln.'
