Paul Ekins, Professor of Energy and Environment Policy at the UCL Energy Institute, is to be one of the judges of The Guardian newspaper's Sustainable Business Awards 2012.

The awards reward best practice in sustainable business and showcase corporate initiatives that tackle the most pressing environmental and social challenges businesses face.

Paul brings extensive experience to the judging panel including consulting for business, government and international organisations, and has been a contributor to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales' course for senior executives on business and the environment, and the Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership, at the University of Cambridge.

In 1994 Paul received a Global 500 Award 'for outstanding environmental achievement' from the United Nations Environment Programme.

Professor Ekins said: "It is so important that business takes sustainability seriously. The Guardian Sustainable Business Awards are a great way of identifying best practice and setting an example to others. It is an honour to be involved."
