10 years of the Climate Change Act - Seminar and celebration

The UK Climate Change Act of 2008 has been crucial in energising the UK Government to pursue carbon emission reduction targets. A number of its elements were, and to some extent still are, world firsts in terms of statutory climate policy commitments, including: the long-term targets, the priority of climate science in setting these targets, the five-year carbon budgets, the Committee on Climate Change, the accountability provisions and reporting requirements of the Government.

In this joint evening seminar and celebration of the Climate Change Act, organised by the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources, the UCL Energy Institute and the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC), we will hear from two of the people most closely associated with it over the years: Baroness Bryony Worthington, who played a crucial role in its establishment, and Matthew Bell, until recently the Chief Executive of the Committee on Climate Change.

The presentation will promptly start at 5:30pm and will be followed by drinks and nibbles.

This event forms part of the wider programme of activities to mark GB Green Week.
