Research summary
Qiuchen's research interests focus on (1)
automation and digitisation in asset & facility management (e.g., digital
twin (DT) in city and building levels, image processing, IoT, AR/VR); (2)
data-driven techniques (e.g., ML/AI, data processing techniques, cloud-based
computing technologies); and (3) asset & facility management innovation (e.g.,
activity theory-based analysis and dialectical system model).
Teaching summary
Qiuchen mainly contributes in three modules: BCPM0060
– Introduction to the Built Environment, BARC0092 – Making Cities and BCPM0071,
Professional Skills for Project Management. She is also the deputy programme
lead for the MSc Digital Innovation in Built Asset Management (DIBAM).
Biography
Dr. Qiuchen Lu became a Lecturer in Digital Built Asset
and Facility Management at the Bartlett School of Construction and Project
Management, University College London (UCL), since August 2019. Before joining
in UCL, Qiuchen was a research associate based at Asset Management Group,
Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), and also worked at the Centre for Smart
Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC) and Centre of Digital Built Britain
(CDBB), Department of Engineering, the University of Cambridge. Dr. Lu mainly
focused on the project ‘Digital Twin (DT) Project’ in building and city levels in
Cambridge. A dynamic DT with multi-layered information models was developed to
integrate heterogeneous data sources, support intelligent cloud-based data
query, provide smarter AI-based decision-making processes and further bridge
the gap between human relationships with buildings/regions via a more
intelligent, visual and sustainable channels. She received her MPhil degree
from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the PhD degree in
the University of Hong Kong in 2014 and 2017 respectively.
Dr. Lu is currently an Associate Member of ASCE (The
American Society of Civil Engineers) and the Editor (Chinese Language) of
Building Information Model (BIM) Dictionary, BIMe INITIATIVE. She is the
reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals, such as Automation in
Construction, ASCE Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering, ASCE Journal of
Management in Engineering etc.
