BSSC announces The Prescot Scholarship for Women in Leadership for Infrastructure and Construction

8 March 2024

As the world marks International Women’s Day, The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction (BSSC) is pleased to announce the second year of the scholarship for women in infrastructure and construction leadership generously donated by industry leader Julia Prescot.

BSSC Scholarship

To contribute to the growth in representation of women in construction and infrastructure leadership roles, a generous donation from Julia Prescot will fund the Prescot Scholarship for Women in Leadership for Infrastructure and Construction at The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction.

Now in its second year, the scholarship in addition to The BSSC Women in Construction MBA Scholarship will provide full funding to enable a woman with UK/Home fee status to pursue a two-year degree on the Major Infrastructure Delivery MBA at The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction at UCL. Both scholarships will be awarded based on academic merit and provide support for full fees.

Julia Prescot is an Honorary Professor at UCL and has more than 30 years’ experience of delivering major projects as co-founder of leading global infrastructure investor Meridiam. Julia has also become a trusted adviser to adviser to Government and industry, serving as Deputy Chair of the National Infrastructure Commission, and as a member of the Government’s UK Investment Council. Throughout her career Julia has been passionate about the need for industry to be more inclusive and diverse.

To match Julia Prescot’s generosity, BSSC will also be running The BSSC Women in Construction MBA Scholarship for the second year. Both scholarships will aim to create positive change based on the recognition that the industry needs diverse voices and perspectives, and this requires diversity in leadership roles – topics discussed by Julia Prescot in our Bartlett Review podcast on women leading infrastructure

The Major Infrastructure Delivery MBA is a one-of-a-kind programme designed specifically for professionals in the infrastructure industry, where leadership skills are essential to successfully navigate large-scale, long-term major project delivery. The MBA enables talented mid-career professionals with the skills and training to step up to transformative leadership roles.

Julia Prescot said: Infrastructure is central to the daily lives of the entire population, so it is vital that we create a more diverse industry that better represents the public we serve. Greater inclusivity is something I have been passionate about throughout my career, so I’m honoured to continue The Prescot Scholarship and to play my part in supporting the women leaders of the future.”

The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction’s Director, Professor Priti Parikh, said: “We are committed to removing barriers for women in mid-management to be future leaders and decision makers in Construction. I am grateful to Julia Prescot who has been an inspiration and role model in the sector of infrastructure programme delivery for her support. Our collaboration grows stronger as this is the second year where we are rolling out both scholarships as we believe in tangible action to address the gap in leadership. Julia has set the bar high through her support of this endeavour.”
