PhD student Yasmin Garcia-Sterling has been awarded the Arena Fellowship based on her student representative experience. UCL Arena Fellowship is a welcoming and flexible programme of events and opportunities which focus on advancing research-based education at UCL. These awards are made based on successful experience of teaching, supporting students’ learning or leading an aspect of education at UCL. The scheme is accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA), which means that UCL can confer awards relating to teaching and leading in higher education upon its own staff.

Yasmin said“This is the first accepted Associate Fellowship Application that was completed with solely student representative experience according to UCL Arena. I'm thrilled because it means this opens accreditation doors for more PhD students who are student representatives to gain such an important qualification should they want to showcase their valuable experience as well as bringing awareness to the opportunities available at UCL that support PhD professional development.”

Prof. Priti Parikh, BSSC Acting Director, said: “Many congratulations to Yasmin for her Arena fellowship. She has set the bar high for student representatives and PhD students in BSSC and beyond. Thrilled that student representative roles are seen as integral to professional development and that Yasmin has created a pathway to do so.”
