Reusable Steel Moulds for Concrete Casting

Victor Polyakov

The main purpose of this project is to create a structure with the ability to expand in space. The project experiments with a single type of node connection that is configurable in variety of ways, assembled using moulds. These moulds take roles of a component-based assembly system that is cast as one piece, onsite.

The project tests the possibility of a reinforced concrete-based node system, to be used as a framework for a minor dwelling that can be expanded to a larger structure by applying more formwork to the existing structure and casting it further, thus enlarging the space. To achieve the node component, laser-cut steel sheets are bent to achieve the appropriate forms and assembled into a structure that can later have a rebar system positioned inside it and be cast with self-consolidating concrete mix.
