New Urban Design bursaries announced at The Bartlett School of Architecture

2 July 2013

Urban Design Workshop

The Bartlett is delighted to offer a series of bursaries to UK and EU students on the MArch Urban Design course in 2013-14. These are sponsored by major London-based architectural practices and cover the fees for the year. In addition there will be an opportunity to gain paid work experience during holiday periods with your sponsoring company.

The MArch Urban Design is a one-year, full-time Masters course at The Bartlett aimed primarily at students with a first degree in architecture. The course explores the complexity and diversity of cities, moving in scale from the street block to the neighbourhood to the city and up to the regional level. In doing this it examines the overlap of different disciplines that contribute to our understanding of cities and how we can intervene in them. As designers our work will inevitably touch the lives of different individuals and communities and the course recognises the ethical and political choices that this implies. The course begins with an introduction to urban design focusing on London before students are allocated into studios for the principal study of the Mediterranean region. It has supporting modules on the history and theory of urban design, on professional practice and on the culture, history and ecology of the Mediterranean. This is a design-based course and the principal outputs are a dissertation and a major design exercise centred on a site in your city of study.

Full details of the course can be found at bit.ly/bartlettUD

In order to apply, you will need to be an EU or UK student and will need to have made an application to the course by 2 August 2013. Your bursary application should include a design folio in PDF format (no bigger than 20 MB) and a written expression of interest of no more than a single page.

Applications and enquiries should be directed to Adrian Lahoud, MArch UD Programme Leader: a.lahoud@ucl.ac.uk
